Have your ever called Disney Central Reservations only to get a cast member who seems to know less about Disney World than you do?   Or, maybe, you have difficulty understanding them because English is not their first language?  It’s happened to me many times — and I don’t feel comfortable making a reservation knowing when I’m not quite sure of what the cast member is saying.  What to do?

Well, honestly … I politely find a way to end the conversation and hang up — and then call back.  In fact, as I was browsing some Disney fan blogs  I was surprised to learn that a lot of ‘regular’ Disney fans do the exact same thing.  I thought I was the only one to be so rude.  Actually, it isn’t rude if you politely end the call.  Of course, it would be rude to just hang up in mid-sentence.

There are hundreds of cast members answering the reservation line … the likelihood of you receiving the same cast member twice in a row is low.  When I make my reservations I want to be sure all the details are correct.  I don’t want to worry about not understanding the person on the other end — especially where my credit card information is involved.  Often the reservation process can take up to 30 minutes — Disney’s computer system is very slow — so there can be a lot of ’silence’ while the cast member waits for the computer to generate a reservation number and/or look for your dates, etc.  I enjoy the cast members who spend that ’silent’ time talking about the newest attractions or giving me tidbits of information I didn’t know.

We’re planning our first trip to DisneyWorld, and would be HORRIFIED if we got there and our reservations weren’t correct.

I say that as long as you’re polite about getting off the phone, you’re really just advocating for yourself.

I’ve never been to DisneyWorld. What do you mean by cast member? Like, when you call for reservations, does Snow White answer or something? That’s kind of cool. lol.

LOL … Cast member is a fancy term for anyone who works for Disney — either at the parks, reservations or at the stores.

This also works if you call other companies for customer service. I have talked to people who barely spoke english or their accent was so strong you couldn’t understand them. So I always say something polite than hang up. You are right, I have never encountered the same person twice
