Pumpkin Patch

This time of the year we like to visit the local pumpkin patch … but I don’t think we’ll be visiting this year.  We had planned on doing so this coming weekend so I went to their website and found they had raised their admission price to $15 per person — even for kids if they are older than 2 years old.  That’s just nuts.  For our family of five that’s $75 just to visit the pumpkin patch and get a tiny pumpkin to take home.  Is there a shortage on pumpkins this year or something?

We’ve been going here for years and I’ve got to admit it’s also starting to get a bit boring — and at that price I can do without the visit.  After hearing the President’s talk tonight I’m even more concerned about the economy than ever before.  It really sounds dreadful.  Then listening to the commentaries afterward was interesting.  I felt like the hospital patient with the doctors all around me discussing my situation as if I weren’t there.  All the experts have their opinion of what to do for the economy while all us regular everyday citizens wonder exactly how this bale-out plan is going to effect us.  Well … for starters … we’re skipping the pumpkin patch.

I know I’m like you! This year we will be skipping alot of things just to pay for the heating oil so we don’t freeze this winter. It’s sad that things like this have to be left out, especially for the kids. Hopefully they will just be satisfied for the warm house they have to live in ;-)

Pumpkin Patches up here have also raised their prices quite a bit. But fortunately our homeschool group got a great rate since there was 25 or more coming, only $4 per person and that includes a hay ride and a pumpkin.

We are going the second week in October.

The local farm here gives free hayrides. We usually let our girls pick out 2 SMALL pumpkins and that’s about it. They’re under 8 years of age, so it really doesn’t make a difference to them. Last year the tractors upgraded and put in wooden benches instead of the bale of hay to sit on! Hay is cheaper!
