If you are headed to Disney World for the holidays you should plan to attend “Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.”

We attended last year and it was a great time.  The party is held at the Magic Kingdom.  A separate ticket purchase is required for this event — as the park is closed to everyone except those with a ticket to this event.  A regular theme park admission is NOT required.

The party doesn’t officially begin until 7 pm — however, you may enter the park any time after 4 pm — what we do is sleep in late that day and make it a ‘hanging at the pool’ day — then at 4 p.m. we go to the ‘party’ — that way we do not use a ‘park ticket’ for that vacation day.

There are special holiday shows held throughout the park during the party — and a special Christmas parade.  Santa Claus is available for pictures and visits by children (old and young, alike).  The fireworks display is a special show not seen on regular nights.

Free cookies, juice and hot chocolate is also available at a variety of locations throughout the park.

Overall, it’s a magical night — you might even see some ’snow’ magically appear while walking down Main Street.

Tickets are available online at a discount if you purchase before the event.  If not, you can purchase tickets at any resort desk on the day of the event.  Here’s the dates for the 2008 Christmas season:

This was always my dream to go to Disney at Christmas time. But now having 2 kids with anxiety disorders due to autism I don’t think this will happen. Just too many people for them.
