Long Lines at Disney

Visiting any of the Disney Theme Parks means long lines while waiting for your favorite attraction. When we made our first ever trip to Disney back in 1988 I had no idea how long ‘long’ meant. It was quite frustrating since we had two young children at the time. I wish I had been better prepared.
Having gone to Disney World many times since — with infants, toddlers, and teens — I often wonder ‘why’ Disney fans put up with the long lines. Of course, there is the fast passes to help — but they are limited in number and only available on the most popular rides.
This ‘why’ question got me thinking. For instance, this last trip of ours we waited in line for Toy Story Mania for 90 minutes. Yet, that 90 minutes didn’t seem so bad. I’ve been pondering this the past few days and thought maybe it’s because we are spending time in line with those we love and enjoy spending time with. For instance, how often on any given day do you get to spend 90 minutes with those you care about talking about ‘whatever’ comes to mind. Ninety minutes is a long time — lots to talk about. In every day life, we are bombarded with the tv, computer, phone, etc. — we don’t take the time to just ‘talk’ with those around us — we find something else to do.
Waiting in line at Disney provides that ‘quality time’ needed to talk with those around us. What do you think? How have you spent your time waiting in line at Disney?

We never waited in lines with our kids, they have so many issues related to autism this would be a disaster for us. But I do remember going to Six Flags Great America as a chaperone with a group of girl scouts years ago and waiting in long lines. But like you said, to kill the time you talk and I really got to know the kids I was with. We live in such a busy high tech community we don’t always take the time to just talk or be together. Sounds like you are making wonderful memories at disney and not just the rides you go on
We love to talk and laugh together. We usually end up talking with other people in line too. It’s like a fast friendship. Children do that easily but for some reason on line adults do too.
We also munch on our snacks while waiting and are sure to drink water so we don’t get sick.
I bring a book to read in line. If it’s a line where we can’t bring anything on, I talk to whoever I’m in line with.
I just went to EPCOT the beginning of July and we could pretty much walk right on anything except Soaring.
On the other hand, we went to MGM in June, oh, I’m sorry, Hollywood Studios and the whole day was line after line. We were in line for Rockin Rollercoaster for 3 hours. It was also Starwars weekend so that could explain the business. My neice spent the whole wait texting her friends. I think I ended up just staring into space and daydreaming.
