Tax-Free Holiday

While shopping this morning I noticed all these signs about a tax-free holiday for back to school items. I didn’t read the fine print since I wasn’t buying any back to school supplies today. Of course, I found a ton of items I wasn’t looking for on sale and threw them in the shopping cart — I found socks, underwear, and lots of ‘basic’ type clothing on sale for the kids. I figured I would stock up. I WAS only there for some food items and some sunscreen. LOL … I can never seem to get out of a store with just what I went in for.
I get to the checkout and the cashier says half the items in my cart would be tax-free IF I had waited until tomorrow — the tax holiday doesn’t start until August 1st. I didn’t have school supplies so I was a bit stumped. Turns out any clothing is tax-free tomorrow as long as it under $100.
So…. I had to decide it putting everything back and driving back to the store tomorrow would make sense to save the 5% tax. I did a quick math calculation in my head and realized it would only be about $2.50 that I would save — and more than likely I would waste that in gas coming back … not to mention I would probably find even MORE things to buy tomorrow. These sales tax-free holidays are occurring in various states — so be sure to check your state’s dates. Here in Virginia it’s August 1st-3rd.

The Fourth of July was right at the middle of our vacation. We planned to stay at the Polynesian Resort all day because the crowds at Magic Kingdom or any of the theme parks are just too much — and often the parks close to new entrants by noon because they are too crowded.
We had breakfast at Ohanas with my sister and her family. Here’s a picture of all the cousins with Lilo and Stitch:
The food was yummy — especially the Mickey Waffles:

Disney Prices rising!
Last Updated on Monday, 28 July 2008 09:08 Written by lorie Monday, 28 July 2008 09:08
Rumor is that the price of tickets to Disney World’s theme parks will increase this coming Sunday, August 3rd.
Obviously, that is not good news — however, if you are thinking of booking a trip for sometime in the near future you might want to do that before this Sunday — since you will get the current price for the ‘ticket’ portion of your vacation package. If you wait until after Sunday you will pay the higher price. For a family of four this could save you a hundred dollars or so depending on your length of stay.
If you are planning on purchasing your theme park tickets separately you may want to do that now at a Disney Store or online — tickets don’t expire until you begin using them … so get today’s price before the increase next week.
Disney normally raises theme park ticket prices every year — so this is nothing new.
