Books for the Trip

The kids went to see Disney’s latest movie: Wall-E today.
They came out of the theater saying ‘they liked it.’ They didn’t seem too overly excited about it. I asked them if it was better than “Prince Caspian” — and they said Wall-E was better. Mmmm…. they didn’t sound too convincing! Guess I’ll have to go see it myself soon. They went with their older brother. My husband and I might go see it together on a date night (what has date night come to if we’re seeing a kids’ movie … lol).
Summer Reading
The kids finally decided on some books-on-tape for our trip. Here’s what in our reading bag for our trip to and from Disney World.
From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg. This is about a girl bored with living in the suburbs — so she decides to run away to NYC with her brother. Lots of adventure and we enjoy reading about NYC ever since we visited there last year.
The Cricket in Times Square (Chester Cricket and His Friends) by George Selden. This is about a cricket (yes, cricket) who also finds himself in NYC. There are a lot of laughs in this book and you almost forget you are reading about a cricket. Some sad moments too.
Off to pack some more…..

Anyone going to see the newest Disney movie “Wall-E” tonight?
My 22 year old wanted to take his three younger siblings to the midnight showing tonight … but I thought a midnight showing for a 9, 11, and 12 year old was just a bit too much. I think they are still a little young for that. They’d probably fall asleep!
Maybe they will go tomorrow … or maybe we’ll save this movie for a raining day at Disney.
At any rate … everyone in this Disney family is excited about this movie release. My 11 year old was on u-tube and found a video where someone said the character of Wall-e was hidden in several previous Disney movie such as Toy Story, The Incredibles and Cars. They almost had me believing … but then we watched those movies in VERY slow motion from our DVDs and I don’t think it’s true.
What do you all think?

Only a few more days and we will be on our way to Disney!
Today I got the oil changed on the van — and everything checked out okay. I went to jiffy lube and if you have ever been there you know how they call you in to the working area and tell you everything that is wrong with your car and how you should change your wiper blades, air filter, rotate tires and flush this or that. I normally say ‘just change the oil my mechanic will look at everything else.’ However, today they called me in and said I only needed an air filter for $21.95 — so I said ‘ok, do it’ since we are headed to Disney and I don’t have time to go elsewhere.
But surprisingly when they were finished and the cashier called my name he said they took a second look at the air filter and it didn’t need to be changed. That’s impressive — I figured they would definitely change it if I had already said to do so. I’m not complaining.
My son, on the other hand, took his car to be inspected. For four years now the back window in his car has not worked properly. It doesn’t go up and down as it should. Yet, for each of the past three years the car has passed state inspection. Not today. Today, the window needs to be fixed in order to pass inspection. What does a faulty window have to do with safety — isn’t that what inspection is suppose to be all about? Poor kid — now he has to find $300 to fix a window switch for a 17 year old car.
