My son is drinking all my coffee!

My son who recently graduated from college is now home — looking for a job. He’s having a hard time finding employment — the economy is bad and no one seems to be hiring. Besides he doesn’t have a clue to what type of career he’ interested in. So …. he’s home with us for the time being — and drinking my  coffee!!!! LOL … it’s okay … it’s kinda nice to come downstairs in the morning and finding the coffee has already been made. He wasn’t a coffee drinker the last time he was home (and that was just a few months ago). I guess those senior exams really got to him. Well, I guess it’s time I order some more coffee to keep the pantry stocked for us both.

VMK is dead

Last Updated on Thursday, 22 May 2008 02:40 Written by lorie Thursday, 22 May 2008 02:40

It happened as we were told — Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) came to end at the stroke of midnight last night.

My 12 year old daughter was very sad last night as she went to bed and said good-bye to her VMK friends for the last time — she cried.

I held her and let her cry. There were no words to soothe her. At first it concerned me a bit that she was so attached to a online website — but it’s not the saying goodbye to the site as much as saying goodbye to the friends she met playing the game. She knows she won’t chat with them again any time soon. They were only ‘online’ friends — but still people she looked forward to chatting with each day. It’s interesting how a ‘virtual’ world can become so much a part of who we are on a daily basis. Technology is great … but I do wonder where it is taking our children.

Ice Cream shrinkage?

Last Updated on Tuesday, 20 May 2008 09:18 Written by lorie Tuesday, 20 May 2008 09:18

Did you know some ice cream companies have shrunk the ’standard’ ice cream container?

I was grocery shopping today and the kids were begging for ice cream. The past few times at the store I noticed it wasn’t on sale — and so I hadn’t purchased it as I waiting for the next sale. Sale or no sale — we ran out and it is a lot cheaper to buy ice cream at the store than it is to go to Dairy Queen for dessert!

I picked up a container of Edy’s Mint Chocolate Chip (my favorite) and thought ‘gee, they changed the shape of the container or something — how cute, it’s looks smaller and will take up less room in the freezer.’ — HA — no…. it’s no longer a half-gallon — but looks ‘almost’ as if it is — it’s now 1 1/2 quarts — yet the price is the same!

Thinking to myself ”well, hell, I’m not going to buy this after they pull that fast one” I went to the Breyer’s Ice Cream section. GUESS WHAT? They shrunk too! Though not as much as Edy’s — Breyer’s is now 1 3/4 quarts.

Doesn’t that just stink! I mean I realize they often do this with canned goods and stuff — but a ‘half a gallon’ of ice cream is like buying a half a gallon of milk — you don’t change that without making it quite clear!

Another sign of our economy not doing so well when they have to shrink the ice cream container!
