VMK is dead

It happened as we were told — Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK) came to end at the stroke of midnight last night.

My 12 year old daughter was very sad last night as she went to bed and said good-bye to her VMK friends for the last time — she cried.

I held her and let her cry. There were no words to soothe her. At first it concerned me a bit that she was so attached to a online website — but it’s not the saying goodbye to the site as much as saying goodbye to the friends she met playing the game. She knows she won’t chat with them again any time soon. They were only ‘online’ friends — but still people she looked forward to chatting with each day. It’s interesting how a ‘virtual’ world can become so much a part of who we are on a daily basis. Technology is great … but I do wonder where it is taking our children.

Awww…I don’t look at it as only *online* friends because you know, a real person IS sitting at another computer!
I would miss my IWC friends terribly =)
