Hybrid Cars

My husband is getting that ‘new car’ bug. He’s trying to talk me into buying a hybrid. In reality, he DOES have a good point with the gas prices rises so much lately. He travels an hour to and from work each day — in a lot of traffic — so the money we’d save in gas would be significant. And, I think there’s still a tax credit for buying one. And, in our area there are HOV lanes which you can use even if you are traveling solo if you have a hybrid car. That could cut the hour-long drive down to something more reasonable.

However, even after I did a lot of calculating of gas miles and gas prices I realized the gas savings doesn’t come close to what a car payment would be for this type of car. The only reason I might be open to this decision is because our college aged son is going to need a car soon. He’s currently driving a 1992 Nissan Sentra — I don’t know how it keeps going and I keep praying it’ll last one more trip home from college (he graduates next month). Maybe, we’ll give him my husband old car as a graduation gift.  I know … used car, for a gift? … but hey, it is better than what he has now.
Of course, buying a hybrid would be good for the environment — and this is Earth Month — maybe they are having a special promo — nope, doubt that — with gas prices continuing to rise they have probably added a surcharge. LOL
