Disney planning!

My kids reminded me today that we’re down to ‘double-digits’ in the countdown for our Disney trip this summer — yea! Sometimes I think the planning of the vacation is more fun than the vacation itself! LOL

We’re headed down to Florida in July — we ‘do’ have family that lives in Orlando — and we plan a family get together when we go down every year — or at least that is our excuse for going every year. Honestly, my kids love Disney and I’ve got to admit it’s something both my husband I look forward to all year long too. For one week out of the year we get to pretend the rest of the world doesn’t exist … LOL … if only it could be true.

People always ask me if we get bored going every year. I never understand why they ask this because they are often the same people who go to the beach every year. At least at Disney there our TONS of things to do and we’ve yet to do everything there. This year we’re even trying several new restaurants that we’ve never been to before. And there are some dinner shows we’ve never seen.

People also think you need to spend a fortune for a Disney trip and that too is not so. Disney has a variety of resorts at all different costs. Disney does have ‘promotions’ all year long where vacation packages are offered at a discounted price. What we do is book our vacation as far in advance as possible — often we book our vacation ten months in advance at the full price. Then, when the promotion is released by Disney we call central reservations and ask to have the promotion code applied to our existing reservation. This way, we get our vacation time ‘locked in’ and can always upgrade if we want to. If you already have a reservation when the promotion is released it is much easier to get the promotion rate than if you did not have the reservation already booked.

This year my 11 year old is excited about taking the ‘behind the scenes’ tour the railroad at Magic Kingdom — you have to be 10 years old to take this tour — and he’s been waiting since he was able to talk about it many years old. He love trains and still has a great time at the Magic Kingdom. We’re also planning to have lunch with an Imagineer — something my daughter is really looking forward to. The youngest can’t make up his mind what he wants to do — other than have fun at the pool at our resort.
